University of Colorado junior Erica Truskolaski approaches college textbook buying with finesse. The physics student shops online. She shares books with classmates. She rents them. And, she avoids buying some books altogether because she said she can find similar educational material on the Web. She'll even consider photocopying portions of textbooks and then returning them. Seven out of 10 undergraduates in a national survey report that they avoided purchasing one or more textbooks because the cost is too high, according to a report released by the Student Public Interest Research Group.
